Konsta Helenius sets Amerks all-time teenage points record

Konsta Helenius has become the Rochester Americans' all-time single-season points leader among teenagers, surpassing a 1992-93 mark with 55 points. The 19-year-old Finnish prospect for the Buffalo Sabres now leads the Amerks with 59 points in his second AHL season. His performance has fueled Rochester's push for the North Division's final playoff spot.

Konsta Helenius reached the historic milestone with an assist on Gavin Bayreuther's goal against Charlotte on April 1. That point broke Jozef Cierny's record of 54 points from the 1992-93 season. Helenius, a first-round pick in Buffalo's 2024 NHL Draft, remains a teenager until May 11 and has tallied 19 goals and 40 assists this year, shattering his rookie output of 35 points (14 goals, 21 assists). He ranks third on the team with 137 shots on goal and is on an eight-game point streak with four goals and 10 assists since March 22. Amerks head coach Michael Leone praised Helenius as coachable with natural instincts. 'He's getting rewarded for playing the game the right way,' Leone said. Helenius credited team chemistry, especially with linemates Anton Wahlberg and Matteo Costantini. 'We've been playing together almost the whole year,' he said. Rochester endured a nine-game winless skid from February into March and lost leading scorer Isak Rosén to a trade, but Helenius filled the void, including on the power play. Leone believes Helenius can elevate further, while the player himself feels confident. The Amerks, hampered by injuries, eye a fifth straight playoff berth by week's end, relying on their young top line.
