The official statement on the social media account noted that KH Amal Fathullah Zarkasyi died while undergoing treatment at RSUD dr. Moewardi in Solo, Central Java. "Prof. Dr. K.H. Amal Fathullah Zarkasyi, M.A. (Leader of Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor) has returned to the mercy of Allah on Saturday, 14 Rajab 1447 H or January 3, 2026, at 12:14 WIB at RSUD Dr. Moewardi, Solo. May the deceased have a good end, be forgiven for all his sins, and have all his deeds of worship accepted," read the official statement from PMDG.

The deceased was the fourth son of K.H. Imam Zarkasyi, one of the Trimurti founders of Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor along with K.H. Ahmad Sahal and K.H. Zainuddin Fananie. He was born on November 4, 1947. During his lifetime, KH Amal Fathullah Zarkasyi was known as an academic and Muslim scholar with expertise in aqidah and Islamic philosophy, particularly in kalam, comparative religion, and Islamic theology.

In addition to his contributions to the world of knowledge, the late figure played a significant role in the development of modern Islamic education. He served as Rector of Universitas Darussalam (UNIDA) Gontor from 2014 to 2020, before taking on the responsibility as leader of Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor until the end of his life.

As of this report, PMDG has not provided an official statement regarding the funeral proceedings for the deceased.
