Li Qiang pushes for high-end manufacturing upgrades in Dalian

Premier Li Qiang visited state-owned shipbuilders in Dalian, Liaoning province, on Monday and urged breakthroughs in high-end equipment manufacturing to strengthen national industrial competitiveness.

During the inspection of shipbuilding and nuclear power firms in the northeast industrial hub, Li called on state-owned enterprises to focus on advanced manufacturing.

Li was quoted by Xinhua as saying that Dalian’s shipbuilding industry has a long history and solid foundation. He stressed the need to track the international technological frontier and secure breakthroughs in key fields.

The premier added that high-end shipbuilding involves advanced technology, high complexity and high added value. He called for enterprises to lead innovation, accelerate research and development of key technologies, and build a skilled workforce.
