Limp Bizkit pays tribute to Sam Rivers at first post-death concert

Limp Bizkit honored their late bassist Sam Rivers with an emotional tribute video during their first concert since his death, held in Mexico City on November 29, 2025. The band continued their Latin American tour as planned, with a replacement bassist filling in. Drummer John Otto shared a heartfelt social media post reflecting on their lifelong friendship.

Event Overview

Limp Bizkit returned to the stage at Estadio Fray Nano in Mexico City, kicking off their Latin American tour. This marked the band's first performance following the death of co-founder and bassist Sam Rivers on October 18, 2025, at age 48. The group had previously committed to proceeding with the tour despite the loss.

Tribute Details

During the show, the band screened a tribute video featuring clips of Rivers onstage and backstage with his bandmates, whom the audience joined in watching. The video concluded with the messages: “Sam Rivers, our brother forever” and “Sam Rivers, we love you forever.” As it ended, the band members embraced while the crowd chanted Rivers' name. Frontman Fred Durst dedicated the performance, saying, “Now we’re gonna do this shit Limp Bizkit style. Tonight, this one’s for Sam Rivers,” before launching into “Break Stuff.”

Bassist Richie “Kid Not” Buxton, who also performs with opening act Ecca Vandal, filled in on bass for the gig.

Band Reflections

Prior to the concert, drummer John Otto posted an emotional tribute on social media: “Today is going to be tough. A first I never wanted to experience... You’ve been there for so many major firsts in my life... We’re going to honor the life you lived and the love you spread with every show we play. You’ll always be with us.”

Earlier, after Rivers' passing, Durst described the loss as “so tragic” and called him “a legend,” noting he had shed “gallons and gallons of tears.” The band issued a joint statement: “Sam Rivers wasn’t just our bass player — he was pure magic... His talent was effortless, his presence unforgettable, his heart enormous.”

Rivers had faced health challenges, including a liver disease diagnosis in 2011 and a transplant in 2017, after which he rejoined the band in 2018. No official cause of death was disclosed.
