The inaugural FIFA World Cup Halftime Show took place Sunday at MetLife Stadium during the Spain versus Argentina final. Madonna, BTS, Justin Bieber and others performed in an 11-minute spectacle produced by Global Citizen.
The show opened with Madonna performing "Music" as Brazilian legends Ronaldo and Ronaldinho escorted her onto the field. Conductor Gustavo Dudamel then led the New York Philharmonic, the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra and The Muppets through a version of "Seven Nation Army."
BTS followed with "Dynamite" before Jason Sudeikis appeared in character as Ted Lasso to introduce Justin Bieber. Bieber delivered an acoustic performance of "Everything Hallelujah" from Swag II.
Shakira and Burna Boy closed the main segment with the official anthem "Dai Dai." Chris Martin of Coldplay, the PS22 Chorus and The Muppets ended the show with the premiere of "We Dance," accompanied by fireworks.
The event raised funds for the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, which has surpassed $60 million for children’s education worldwide. Spain defeated defending champion Argentina with an overtime goal after the performance.
