Maharashtra begins rollout of farmer loan waiver scheme

The Maharashtra government started distributing benefits under the Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Shetkari Karjamukti Scheme on July 23, 2025, with the first 500 beneficiaries announced from six districts.

The state government issued the list of eligible farmers and began sending SMS messages for Aadhaar authentication. Lists were made available at Gram Panchayats, cooperative society offices and bank branches.

The scheme was announced on June 2 and its criteria were revised on July 15. Fifty-three banks uploaded farmer loan details to a dedicated portal, with accounts from district central cooperative banks verified by auditors.

NABARD set a crop credit target of ₹95,373 crore for 2026-27, while the state level bankers committee fixed a ₹75,449 crore allocation for the year. The process for district central cooperative banks was scheduled to finish by July 31, after which commercial banks would begin transfers.
