A man died and another was seriously injured after a car was hit by a train at Suruí station in Magé, in the Baixada Fluminense, on Saturday (7). The vehicle crossed the railway irregularly through an unauthorized passage. SuperVia expressed regret over the incident and emphasized traffic rules.

The collision took place on the afternoon of Saturday (7) at Suruí railway station in Magé, in the Baixada Fluminense, Rio de Janeiro. According to SuperVia, the operator of the railway, the passenger car crossed the tracks irregularly through an unauthorized level crossing and was struck by the train.

Images circulating on social media show the vehicle crushed between the train and the boarding platform. Firefighters were called around 6 PM, with teams from the Fragoso station in Magé and Campos Elíseos in Duque de Caxias. At the scene, rescuers found a man of about 30 years old already deceased. Another, approximately 25 years old, was rescued in serious condition and taken to Adão Pereira Nunes Hospital in Duque de Caxias. There are no updates on his status.

The Military Police, via the 34th BPM (Magé), confirmed that the driver ignored the signage when crossing the tracks. The case is under investigation by the 65th Police Station (Magé), where the train driver has already given a statement. Further inquiries are ongoing to clarify the circumstances.

SuperVia reported that train service on the Guapimirim branch was temporarily suspended due to the accident but resumed on Sunday (8). In a statement, the company noted that it immediately alerted rescue authorities and expressed regret for the tragedy. It reminded that, under the Brazilian Traffic Code, trains have right of way, and failing to stop before crossing the tracks is a serious infraction subject to fines.
