President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. marked the 128th anniversary of Philippine Independence on June 12 with a call to safeguard truth amid evolving national challenges.

Marcos stated that while past generations faced colonial oppression, today’s threats require protecting truth from distortion, using technology wisely, and restoring trust. He described freedom as a responsibility to uphold rather than a legacy to inherit.

Armed Forces of the Philippines chief Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. echoed the message, saying the military would continue to defend sovereignty and democratic institutions. Brawner highlighted the theme “Kalayaan, Kinabukasan, Kasaysayan” and urged personnel to embody patriotism through discipline and integrity.

Malacañang said no loyalty checks were needed in the military despite rumors of destabilization plots. Palace press officer Claire Castro noted that the AFP remained united and professional. The Philippine National Police deployed 89,473 personnel nationwide for the day’s events.
