Marvel Rivals producer calls 2025 a warm-up for bigger 2026 plans

Executive producer Danny Koo has described 2025 as merely a warm-up for Marvel Rivals, with even larger updates planned for 2026. The hero shooter, developed by NetEase in partnership with Marvel Games, continues to roll out weekly content amid a solid player base. Koo emphasized the team's excitement and long-term vision extending into 2027.

NetEase's Marvel Rivals has marked a strong first year since launch, delivering frequent updates including PvE zombie modes and numerous new heroes. As the multiplayer hero shooter wraps up 2025, executive producer Danny Koo shared insights on its future trajectory. In an interview with Den of Geek, Koo stated, “2025 was more of a warm-up period for us. Next year, we’re going to have bigger plans. We’re not going to slow down.”

The upcoming addition of Deadpool, already appearing in game menus with shifting roles, signals more content on the horizon. A New Year’s Eve event is set to launch soon, keeping momentum high. Koo revealed that planning extends well beyond 2026, with 2027 updates already in the pipeline. “We’ve already planned more than a year ahead,” he said, “and I can’t wait for our players to see it.”

The game's rapid release cycle—new content every week—has energized the development team. “It’s a lot of hard work and it always feels different and exciting,” Koo noted. “This game is releasing new content every week. Even my own team comes in every day asking what’s new today. Everyone’s excited. They want to continue to make this happen. Everyone wants to make this the biggest game possible.”

Despite a drop in player numbers from its massive debut, Marvel Rivals maintains a substantial audience, outperforming many new online multiplayer titles. This sustained interest has deepened Marvel Games' commitment to evolving the live-service game.
