Max B drops 'Public Domain 7: The Purge' mixtape, first since 16-year prison release, with deluxe edition

Harlem rapper Max B, known for popularizing 'wavy,' has released Public Domain 7: The Purge, his first full-length project in four years and seventh in the series, just weeks after his November 9 prison release following 16 years served. The mixtape features A$AP Rocky, Kehlani, French Montana, and others, with an expanded 29-track deluxe edition.

Max B, the 47-year-old Harlem rapper behind the term 'wavy,' was freed on November 9, 2025, after serving 16 years of a 20-year sentence—reduced from 75 years imposed in 2009 for his role as an accomplice in a New Jersey robbery-murder, despite not being at the scene. His conviction was vacated in 2016 over his lawyer's conflict of interest, followed by a plea deal on aggravated manslaughter. He faces five years of parole.

Released December 22, 2025, Public Domain 7: The Purge revives his signature mixtape series, following 2016's Wave Gods and 2021's Negro Spirituals—the first entry in nine years. The standard 25-track project includes a posthumous Chinx feature, plus A$AP Rocky, Kehlani (remix of 'Folded'), French Montana, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, Lola Brooke, and a freestyle over SZA's 'Snooze.' Standouts include 'No More Tricks.' The Patient Zero Deluxe edition expands it to 29 tracks, nearly 90 minutes.

Max B recorded during incarceration using a cell makeshift studio, viewing this as a continuation of his pre-2007 arrest work. In an Okayplayer interview, he described his process: 'I use what I always use—my experience and my imagination... Producers send me tracks and I do what I do.' He teased in Billboard: 'It never went nowhere; that’s why we’re on seven.' This drop fulfills his vow to 'open the floodgates,' bridging his influential past—like Public Domain 3: Domain Pain—with a resilient return to hip-hop.
