Max Fried to throw live batting practice on Sunday

New York Yankees left-hander Max Fried is set to throw live batting practice on Sunday at Yankee Stadium as he works back from a left elbow injury.

Fried has been on the injured list since mid-May with a left elbow bone bruise. He completed a bullpen session on Friday and is expected to throw 35 pitches during the live session.

Manager Aaron Boone noted the pitcher's progress before Saturday's game against the Twins. "He looks really good. He feels really good. He looks like Max Fried. For him, it’s just a matter of building up some volume from a pitch count standpoint," Boone said.

Fried has worked on his mechanics while sidelined. "I’m trying to dial it in, be a little more balanced and just be more on time," he said. "It felt really good, so far."

Fried is 4-3 with a 3.21 ERA in 10 starts this season. His return would create a strong top of the rotation alongside Cam Schlittler and Gerrit Cole. He is not expected to pitch in a big league game for at least another month.
