The New York Yankees placed left-hander Carlos Rodón on the 15-day injured list Friday with left elbow inflammation. The move is retroactive to Tuesday. Rodón is expected to receive a platelet-rich plasma injection and will not throw for at least a week.
Rodón, 33, last pitched Sunday in a 5-4, 10-inning loss to the Boston Red Sox. He allowed two unearned runs on one hit and four walks while striking out six over five innings.
He had been scheduled to start Saturday against the Minnesota Twins. Imaging showed no damage to his ulnar collateral ligament.
“Throughout the week, [the elbow] hasn’t been agreeing with me,” Rodón said. “The recovery has not been so great over the last few weeks.”
In related roster moves, third baseman Ryan McMahon and outfielder Trent Grisham were reinstated from the 10-day injured list, and utility player Oswaldo Cabrera was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Yankees manager Aaron Boone noted that Rodón’s stuff has remained good despite the issue.
