McLaren Golf launches Series 1 and Series 3 irons

McLaren Golf announced its first iron sets, the Series 1 and Series 3, at a launch event tied to the Cadillac Championship and Miami Grand Prix. Professional golfer Justin Rose, the company's first global ambassador and investor, will debut the clubs this week at Trump Doral's Blue Monster course. The irons feature advanced Metal Injection Molding technology for enhanced precision and performance.

McLaren Golf, a new division of the supercar and Formula 1 team, introduced the Series 1 muscle-back irons for skilled players and the Series 3 performance cavity-back irons on April 29. The clubs emphasize precision engineering, including a structural mesh that saves 2-3 grams of mass per head, redistributed via tungsten weights for progressive center of gravity placement. This design helps long irons launch higher and guards against common mishits, drawing from McLaren's expertise in materials, aerodynamics, and sensors shared with F1 equipment, according to CEO Zak Brown and engineering director Ryan Badgero. McLaren Golf CEO Neil Howie highlighted the rigorous process: “We challenged every part of the process—from materials to construction—to uphold the exacting standards that define McLaren.” The Series 1 offers a flat sole for shot-shaping, progressive offset to mitigate right misses in long irons, and silicone dampening for feel. The Series 3 adds central tungsten in a carbon-fiber bonnet for forgiveness, cambered sole for turf interaction, and options for lighter head weights while maintaining CG stability. Justin Rose provided key feedback, influencing features like offset in long irons, and plans to game a Series 3 4-iron and possibly a 5-iron. Priced at $375 per clubhead, the irons become available April 30 through select custom-fitting retailers in North America, Europe, and South Korea. Rose, ranked No. 5 in the Official World Golf Ranking after a T13 at the Players Championship, has tested prototypes for nearly two years using metal-injection molding for superior quality and feel. McLaren executives, including Automotive CEO Nick Collins, stressed their commitment: “We don’t do anything by half... we mean to go and win.”
