A família do pato Merlín compareceu à conferência matinal da presidente Claudia Sheinbaum no Palácio Nacional na segunda-feira, 22 de junho.

A presidente destacou a história da família e anunciou apoio para melhorar sua qualidade de vida após a ave ganhar fama durante a Copa do Mundo de 2026.

Carla Gómez, tutora de Merlín, explicou que o pato recebe ração especial para aves, vegetais, frutas, proteínas, charales vivos e grilos. Aos domingos, ele come um taco de carnitas de um vendedor de rua.

A família relembrou que Merlín chegou após a morte de Waffle em janeiro de 2024 e que Bruna, sua antecessora, viralizou em 2020 por usar tênis. Ambas as experiências ajudaram no cuidado atual da ave.

Gómez confirmou que, na segunda-feira, iniciaram os procedimentos junto ao IMPI para registrar a imagem e a marca de Merlín.
