Metallica halts additions to 24-show Sphere residency

Metallica has announced it will not add more dates to its 24-show residency at Las Vegas' Sphere venue, at least for now. The band expressed gratitude for fans' enthusiasm while addressing frustrations with the ticket purchasing process. The residency, titled Life Burns Faster, begins in October 2026.

Metallica revealed on March 10 that its upcoming 24-show run at the Sphere in Las Vegas, dubbed Life Burns Faster, will not see additional dates added at this time, though the band hopes to offer more in the future. Initially announced with eight shows from October 1 to October 31, 2026, the residency expanded several times due to demand, reaching a total of 24 performances extending into March 2027.

The full schedule includes pairs of shows on October 1 & 3, 8 & 10, 15 & 17, 22 & 24, 29 & 31; November 5 & 7; January 28 & 30; February 4 & 6, 18 & 20, 25 & 27; and March 4 & 6, 11 & 13. These follow the band's No Repeat Weekend format from its M72 world tour, ensuring no songs are repeated across each Thursday-Saturday pair.

In an Instagram message, Metallica stated: “Thank You Sphere Fans! Wow! What a week. We are so appreciative and grateful to all of you for the incredible response to our upcoming Life Burns Faster residency at Sphere in Las Vegas. We are completely and utterly blown away and cannot believe that we will have 24 amazing nights on stage there, all thanks to you and a record-breaking week.” The band acknowledged ticket sale issues, noting: “We hear you loud and clear that the ticket-buying process was often frustrating and not always smooth. We’re working with our partners to improve this experience and offer some remedies for the next time around.”

Prior to the residency, Metallica will resume its M72 tour in Europe, starting May 9 in Athens, Greece, and concluding July 5 at London Stadium. The Sphere shows will feature immersive technologies, including Sphere Immersive Sound and multi-sensory 4D effects, enhanced by the venue's high-resolution LED display. Metallica follows artists like U2, Phish, Dead & Company, the Eagles, and Backstreet Boys in hosting a residency there. Band members have previously expressed excitement about the venue's potential, with guitarist Kirk Hammett calling it a “great example of how venues are changing” and using “modern technology to the fullest.”
