Metric lança Romanticize the Dive após sessões no Electric Lady

A banda canadense Metric lançou seu novo álbum, Romanticize the Dive, em 24 de abril, gravado no Electric Lady Studios, em Nova York. O guitarrista James Shaw contou ao La Tercera como eles buscaram recuperar a liberdade de seus primeiros dias. O álbum conta com a equipe por trás de seus sucessos anteriores, como Fantasies e Synthetica.

O Metric, vindo de Toronto e formado por James Shaw, Emily Haines, Joshua Winstead e Joules Scott-Key, lançou Romanticize the Dive pela Thirty Tigers. A banda se reuniu com o produtor e mixador de Fantasies (2009) e Synthetica (2012) para revisitar aquela época.

"Queríamos recuperar aquela sensação de liberdade", disse Shaw ao Culto, do La Tercera. Ele relembrou um momento no Electric Lady, fundado por Jimi Hendrix em 1970: ao sair, ouviu três singles do Metric em um bar, o que o lembrou de seu som verdadeiro. "É como se o prédio fosse meu soro da verdade", disse ele sobre o estúdio.

Seu processo criativo permaneceu consistente: Haines chega com ideias no celular ou iPad, ou Shaw começa com instrumentais. Para As If You’re Here, ela acertou a tomada final de uma só vez. A capa apresenta apenas Haines com uma camisa gasta e o nome do álbum em fita adesiva, capturando a essência deles.

Shaw evita críticas: "Se não te faz feliz, tudo bem". O álbum tem recebido elogios como o melhor da banda em anos. Eles planejam uma turnê, possivelmente retornando à América do Sul, segundo conversas com as bandas Stars e Broken Social Scene.
