Ministry of Public Works starts drilling 24 boreholes in Aceh Tamiang

The Ministry of Public Works (PU) has begun constructing 24 raw water borehole points in Aceh Tamiang Regency, Aceh Province, to provide emergency clean water following the flash flood disaster. This initiative supports community health recovery after basic infrastructure like roads and bridges improves. Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo emphasized the urgency of clean water to prevent diseases.

The Ministry of Public Works (PU) has initiated raw water drilling operations at 24 points in Aceh Tamiang Regency to address the urgent need for clean water following flash floods. The project aims to establish emergency clean water services and support community health recovery, after addressing basic infrastructure such as roads and bridges.

Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo highlighted clean water as the top priority. "If there's no water, diseases will surely come. After roads and bridges start improving, our next focus is water. Clean water must be available immediately for all communities," he stated in a written release in Jakarta on Monday (December 29, 2025).

By Sunday (December 28, 2025), borehole construction had begun at several sites. Drilling is underway at three points: Simpang Lhee Mosque in Manyak Payed Subdistrict, Al Ikhlas Mosque in Banda Mulia Subdistrict, and the Kuala Simpang Subdistrict Office. Four other locations are in preparation: Matang Taupah Village in Bendahara Subdistrict, Manahini Gempong in Karang Batu Subdistrict, Bandar Kalifah Village in Tamiang Hulu Subdistrict, and Darul Mukhlisin Islamic Boarding School in Karang Baru Subdistrict.

Geoelectric surveys are being conducted by the Groundwater Balai (BAT) team to ensure optimal groundwater potential. At Darul Mukhlisin Boarding School, drilling equipment is on site and ready. The 24 points are spread across 12 locations, supported by five drilling units and one Koken drilling truck mobilized from Banda Aceh.

This effort is part of an integrated clean water provision program by the Directorate General of Human Settlements and the Directorate General of Water Resources under the Ministry of PU. Distribution includes four locations each in Karang Baru, Kuala Simpang, Bendahara, and Manyak Payed Subdistricts; and two each in Rantau, Sekerak, Kejuruan Muda, Seruway, Bandar Pusaka, Tenggulun, Banda Mulia, and Tamiang Hulu Subdistricts.

The Ministry of PU is also operating four mobile water treatment installation (IPA) units, 20 water tank trucks, 12 biority units, 63 public hydrants, 26 portable toilets, seven emergency toilets, 39 water towers, and three fecal vacuum trucks in Aceh. Additional resources, including eight mobile IPA units, two water tank trucks, seven public hydrants, 21 emergency toilets, four water towers, and eight mud cleaning units, are being mobilized.

Minister Hanggodo reaffirmed the Ministry's commitment to accelerating clean water and sanitation infrastructure in affected areas, particularly Aceh Tamiang.
