Mothers in Horndal concerned over increased truck traffic near school

Mothers Marie Krantz and Ann Jägers in Horndal report increased heavy truck traffic through the village since Google's site work began. They demand safety improvements near Johan-Olovskolan. Trafikverket maintains that traffic safety is already adequate.

Google's site preparation work in Horndal, started in mid-November 2025, has brought heavier truck traffic along riksväg 68 through the village. Mothers Marie Krantz and Ann Jägers report more trucks and worry about children's safety en route to Johan-Olovskolan.

"As it is now, I don't dare let the children go alone," says Marie Krantz. She also notes increased traffic to the Garpenberg mine. Horndal lacks traditional pedestrian crossings, featuring refuges instead, with speed limits of 40 km/h generally and 30 km/h by the school.

School principal Mikael Isaksson teaches traffic awareness but calls for additional measures. Trafikverket, responsible for the highway, does not share the concerns. "We consider the safety to be good," says samhällsplanerare Christina Hjorth, citing 2023 measurements showing decreased traffic.

Hjorth says the next measurement is scheduled for 2027 but may occur earlier due to perceived changes. Safety is deemed adequate thanks to the refuges.
