Navratilova links Sinner's Wimbledon win to skiing balance

Martina Navratilova attributed Jannik Sinner's victory over Alexander Zverev in the Wimbledon final to the Italian's exceptional balance developed through competitive skiing. Sinner won the Gentlemen’s Singles title 6-7, 7-6, 6-3, 6-4 after three hours and 46 minutes. The former champion highlighted how Sinner recovered from a slip to win a key point in the third set.

Navratilova spoke on The Tennis Channel about the contrast between the two players. She noted that Zverev was affected after slipping while Sinner got up immediately and won the point. Navratilova said Sinner's balance comes from his skiing background, where he must stay centered on his feet.

Sinner won the Italian national giant slalom championship at age eight before quitting the sport at 13 to focus on tennis. During the final, he slipped while pressuring Zverev's serve in the eighth game of the third set but recovered to hit a forehand that forced an error.

Sinner has not missed a tournament since the 2024 Madrid Open. He uses brain training with electrodes under physician Riccardo Ceccarelli to improve focus and has a 44-3 record this season with six titles.
