NBI forms task force to probe 2019 SEA Games fund use

The National Bureau of Investigation has set up a task force to examine alleged irregularities in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games hosting. The group will review how P6.7 billion in public funds were spent.

NBI Director Melvin Matibag announced the creation of Task Force Cash Cow. It will seek documents from the Commission on Audit, Securities and Exchange Commission and Bureau of Internal Revenue.

Initial findings showed the funds went to PHISGOC Foundation Inc., a non-stock non-profit group formed in 2018 by Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano. The task force has issued subpoenas to seven people, including Ramon Suzara.

Some of those subpoenaed are set to appear on Monday. The NBI may also call Cayetano for questioning about his role in the organizing committee.

The task force includes members from the NBI public corruption division, special action unit, field officers and the director’s office.
