Neal Shipley records first TGL hole-in-one in Bay's victory

Neal Shipley made history in his TGL debut by scoring the league's first hole-in-one, helping The Bay Golf Club secure an 11-5 win over Los Angeles Golf Club. The 25-year-old former Ohio State golfer's ace on the fifth hole propelled his team to their first victory of the season at SoFi Center. Shipley sealed the match with a birdie putt on the 14th hole.

Neal Shipley’s debut in the Tomorrow’s Golf League (TGL) on Monday at SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, marked a memorable milestone. The 25-year-old Ohio State alumnus, who earned low amateur honors at the 2024 Masters and recently secured his PGA Tour card after two Korn Ferry Tour wins in 2025, recorded the first hole-in-one in TGL history. This occurred on the 110-yard par-3 fifth hole, "Set in Stone," where Shipley’s wedge shot landed on the back fringe and spun into the cup, giving The Bay a 4-0 lead.

Earlier, Min Woo Lee impressed with a 211-yard, 7-iron shot at the par-3 "Last Toll," setting up Luke Clanton for a 9-foot birdie putt that opened the scoring at 1-0. The Bay then used a Hammer throw on their team hole, "Bay Breaker," to extend the lead to 3-0. Los Angeles responded by halving the deficit to 4-2 with points on the sixth and seventh holes, including Tommy Fleetwood’s low driver on "Stinger."

In singles play, Clanton added an eagle on the 10th with the Hammer in play, pushing the score to 7-3. Fleetwood won the next hole to narrow it to 7-4, and Sahith Theegala’s tee shot on "Cenote" led to another point, making it 7-5. Shipley then drained a 16-foot birdie on the 14th for two points, securing the 9-5 lead and the overall 11-5 victory after the final hole.

Shipley reflected, “This is different than any hole-in-one I’ve ever had before. This is amazing. Wow. This is so cool.” Tommy Fleetwood of Los Angeles said, “It was great being back with the boys. Thought the atmosphere was great... We just couldn’t quite build any momentum.”

The win improves The Bay to 1-2, keeping postseason hopes alive, while Los Angeles drops to 1-2-0. TGL, a tech-infused 3-on-3 league founded in 2022, features six teams in two-hour matches at the custom SoFi venue.
