Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed inaugurated the Addis Ababa Sport Park yesterday, where 15 Olympic champions including athlete Kenenisa Bekele received awards of honor.
Kenenisa Bekele stated that the government's license to handicapped athletes encourages able-bodied ones. Deputy Prime Minister Temsgen Tiruneh described the park as a sign of Ethiopia's overall progress. The prime minister noted that the site, previously a landfill in the Kazanchis area, has been transformed.
The park features an Olympic-standard athletics track, professional soccer and volleyball fields, tennis courts, and running paths. It includes green recreational areas and is designed for multiple sports. Officials praised it as a monument honoring athletes' achievements.
