Paul McCartney has said he does not know whether he will ever retire from recording and touring. The 83-year-old spoke to NME ahead of the release of his latest solo album.
In the interview, McCartney recalled being asked about retirement at age 50. He said he had replied that he did not think so, noting that perceptions of age have changed over time. McCartney explained that live performances allow fans to experience music from his era in person. He mentioned artists such as Neil Young, the Stones and the Eagles as examples where hearing the music live provides a unique feel. He also described the ongoing satisfaction of songwriting. McCartney said the process of creating a song still brings the same magic it always has, even after decades in the industry. The musician added that he felt excitement about contributing to a new album by the Rolling Stones and was grateful not to take such opportunities for granted.
