Paula Badosa defeated Tamara Zidansek in the Iasi Open semifinals to reach her first WTA final in two years. The Spaniard overcame a first-set loss and an on-court outburst to win in three sets.
Badosa lost the opening set 3-6 but fought back to take the second 7-5. She sealed the match in a 7-1 tiebreak after two hours and 41 minutes of play.
The 28-year-old threw her racket into the crowd during the match after an overhead smash hit the net. No one was injured and she faced no penalty.
Badosa is on a nine-match winning streak and will face Mayar Sherif in the final. A victory would lift her ranking as high as No. 75 and secure direct entry to the US Open main draw.
