Nintendo has unveiled a new trailer for its upcoming Pokémon spin-off, Pokopia, introducing the first new forms for iconic Pokémon Pikachu and Snorlax beyond outfits or Gigantamax variants. The game features life-sim gameplay focused on regenerating a deserted island using Pokémon abilities. Pokopia is set to release on March 5, 2026, for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2.
New Pokémon Forms
The trailer highlights Peakychu, a pale Pikachu variant with drooping ears and fur in a mysterious color, appearing in a ghost-like form. Mosslax depicts Snorlax covered in moss, resembling a stone figure with a flower on its head. These mark the first true new forms for the duo. Additionally, a new Smeargle called Smearguru uses its tail as a brush.
Gameplay Overview
Players control a Ditto that transforms into a customizable young girl character. Guided by mentor Professor Tangrowth, the goal is to revive a once-human-inhabited island now deserted, by attracting Pokémon through habitats like tall grass for Charmander, Timburr, or Eevee; punching bags for Hitmonchan; and fishing rods for Magikarp.
Ditto learns signature moves from Pokémon, such as Squirtle's Water Gun to irrigate plants, Scyther's Cut, and Bulbasaur's Vine Whip—often involving comical vomiting animations. Special transformations enable exploration, like swimming with Lapras or flying with Dragonite. Crafting at a workbench uses island materials like logs and straw to build comfortable Pokémon beds.
Mini-quests involve fulfilling Pokémon requests, while abilities like Pichu's electricity can power lamps. The game supports up to four-player co-op and Game Share across Switch and Switch 2 consoles.
Release Details
Pokopia launches as a Game-Key Card, Nintendo's physical media format, emphasizing its cozy life-sim elements reminiscent of Animal Crossing and Minecraft.
