On Christmas Day, a woman in Muragara, Kirinyaga County, allegedly stabbed a man to death during a dispute over a KSh60 debt. The victim died on the spot from deep stab wounds, and police have launched a search for the suspect who fled the scene.
Police in Muragara, Kirinyaga County, have begun searching for a woman suspected of stabbing a man to death on Christmas Day, December 25, 2025, following a dispute over a small KSh60 debt. The incident took place at a local drinking joint, where the argument started when the victim refused to pay a KSh60 bill.
According to police reports, the victim confronted and assaulted the woman, believed to be his lover, leading her to stab him. "The victim refused to pay and started confronting the woman. I intervened and told him to stop assaulting her. Shortly after, I heard him complain that he had been stabbed," one witness recounted.
Another witness, the victim's cousin, said they were celebrating Christmas nearby when they heard a commotion. Upon arriving at the scene, they found their cousin already dead from stab wounds. The suspect fled the area and remains at large. Police have stepped up efforts to find her and are appealing to the public for any information that could lead to her arrest.
The victim's body was taken to a nearby mortuary for preservation pending a post-mortem examination. This incident adds to a pattern of violent episodes in the county linked to minor debts. In November 2025, a man was stabbed to death over a KSh50 debt in Kiawaruguru village by his friend using a kitchen knife. Also in 2023, a woman from Kirinyaga stabbed her boyfriend to death in a domestic dispute before surrendering to police.
Local leaders have called on residents to stay calm, resolve disputes peacefully, or seek help from village elders and police if amicable solutions prove impossible.
