President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto delivered his speech at the Gala Iftar Business Summit held at the US Chamber of Commerce in Washington DC, United States, on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 local time. He emphasized his administration's strong commitment to fighting corruption and various domestic irregularities.
"My government is committed to combating corruption and irregularities," Prabowo stated. He acknowledged several issues in Indonesia, including smuggling, human trafficking, illegal economic activities, illegal mining, illegal fishing, and illegal logging. Specifically, Prabowo noted that the government has closed 1,000 illegal mines operating in protected forests.
"We know we have many problems. We have issues with smuggling, human trafficking, illegal economic activities, illegal mining, illegal fishing, and illegal logging. I have just closed 1,000 illegal mines. They were mining in protected forests," he added.
Furthermore, Prabowo stated that the government has also seized approximately 4 million hectares of land from corporations violating laws by operating outside their permitted areas or concessions.
