Regional travel fair opens doors for Cordillera businesses

The 17th Regional Travel Fair began on May 15 in Baguio City, bringing together sellers, buyers, and tourism officials to promote local products and partnerships. Organized by the Tourism Promotions Board and the Department of Tourism, the three-day event at the Baguio Convention and Cultural Center highlights Cordillera enterprises and aims to expand market access beyond the region.

The event opened with a business-to-business session on Friday, May 15. It featured 77 sellers and 56 buyers from across the Philippines, along with local government units and regional tourism offices. TPB Domestic Promotions Department Acting Head Arnold T. Gonzales outlined the agency’s framework for strategic linkages during an orientation, noting how such fairs help regional firms reach national and international buyers.

On Saturday, May 16, the fair opened to the public. DOT Undersecretary Shalimar Hofer Tamano delivered the keynote, stressing the value of accessible travel options amid rising costs. He said the gathering helps sustain tourism enterprises and encourages Filipinos to explore domestic destinations.

Participants included weaving businesses such as Narda’s Handwoven Arts & Crafts and local brands like The Cordilleran Daughter coffee beans. Lucia Catanes of Narda’s said the fair helps introduce traditional crafts to younger generations. Ompong Palma of Wright Park Hotel added that the event supports new partnerships while showcasing Cordilleran heritage and sustainability efforts.
