Resident Evil 2 photo mystery solved after 28 years

The identity of the man pictured on Jill Valentine's desk in the original 1998 Resident Evil 2 has been confirmed as actor Kyle MacLachlan.

A dedicated fan known as Morio on X uncovered the answer after years of research through Japanese magazines. The pixelated image matches a promotional photo of the Twin Peaks star.

Players who inspect the desk in the game hear the line: “It’s a picture of a young man. There’s a good chance it’s her boyfriend…” Capcom replaced the photo with an image of a dog in the remake.

Morio also identified other celebrity photos in the Raccoon City police station, including Winona Ryder, Mel Gibson, Jodie Foster, and the cast of Back to the Future 3.
