Rijiju announces no new deadline for waqf registration

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju has stated there will be no new deadline for waqf registration, providing relief to mutawallis. For the next three months, no penalties will be imposed on those who have not yet registered. Unregistered mutawallis can approach their respective waqf tribunals for assistance.

In a recent announcement, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju addressed concerns regarding the registration of waqf properties. He emphasized that no new deadline has been set for mutawallis to complete the registration process on the designated portal. This decision aims to ease the compliance burden on those managing waqf assets across India.

Rijiju highlighted that for the coming three months, there will be no penalties applied to individuals or entities that have not registered. This grace period allows time for proper adherence without immediate financial repercussions. He specifically noted that mutawallis who have not registered at all can seek guidance and resolution through their local waqf tribunals.

The statement comes amid ongoing efforts to streamline the management of waqf properties, which are significant endowments under Islamic law dedicated for religious or charitable purposes. This development provides clarity and temporary relief, ensuring that administrative hurdles do not disrupt community activities supported by these properties.
