Seattle Kraken activate Murray from IR and recall Nyman

The Seattle Kraken activated goaltender Matt Murray from injured reserve last week and recalled forward Jani Nyman from the Coachella Valley Firebirds ahead of a road trip. Injuries to Jaden Schwartz, Eeli Tolvanen, and concerns over Jared McCann prompted the moves. Newly acquired Bobby McMann has scored four goals in three games since joining the team.

The Seattle Kraken made several roster adjustments amid injuries. Last week, the team activated goaltender Matt Murray from injured reserve. Murray last played on Nov. 15 against the San Jose Sharks, exiting early due to injury. In five games with three starts for the Kraken, he recorded a .922 save percentage, the highest among the team's goaltenders. Murray signed with Seattle in the 2025 offseason as part of a plan to carry three goalies, though his injury disrupted that early in the season. He has yet to play since returning but could feature on the upcoming road trip. He was relieved by Philipp Grubauer, who stopped all 19 shots in that game against the Sharks. The Kraken recalled forward Jani Nyman from their AHL affiliate, the Coachella Valley Firebirds. Nyman played 24 games with Seattle this season, recording six points, before being sent down where he has 27 points in 29 games. The recall follows Jaden Schwartz being out indefinitely with an upper-body injury and Eeli Tolvanen missing the last game due to a similar issue. Jared McCann did not play the final 11 minutes against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday. In a trade at the March 6 deadline, Seattle acquired forward Bobby McMann from the Toronto Maple Leafs, sending a 2026 fourth-round pick and a 2027 second-round pick. After immigration delays, McMann debuted on March 14 with two goals and an assist in a 5-2 win over the Vancouver Canucks. He added a goal and assist in a 6-2 victory against the Florida Panthers, then scored in a loss to the Lightning, totaling four goals and six points in three games. The Kraken, holding the second wild-card spot with 71 points alongside the Los Angeles Kings and ahead of the San Jose Sharks (70) and Nashville Predators (69), start a six-game road trip on March 19 against Nashville.
