Shetland pony wins 2026 royal windsor senior ridden championship

A 20-year-old grey gelding named Briar Snowman has claimed the senior ridden championship at the 2026 Royal Windsor Horse Show. Ridden by 10-year-old Penny Richardson, the pony secured victory for the Richardson family after recovering from serious health problems.

Briar Snowman, owned by Lucy Richardson, triumphed in the senior ridden class. Two years earlier the family had feared losing the pony to severe laminitis and considered putting him down. They nursed him back to health and he returned successfully to competition under saddle. Penny Richardson said the win was special because the show is his favourite and he enjoys the hacking and treats there.
