Skulld releases 'Mother Death' single ahead of new album

Italian death metal band Skulld has unveiled their new single 'Mother Death', providing a preview of their upcoming album 'Abyss Calls to Abyss', scheduled for release on January 30, 2026, via Time To Kill Records. The track blends old-school Swedish death metal with crust punk and hardcore elements, exploring themes of mortality and existential struggle. This release reinforces the band's reputation for intense, conceptually rich extreme music.

Formed in Romagna, Italy, in 2019, Skulld combines old-school Swedish death metal with shamanic and esoteric influences, grounded in feminist, anti-fascist, and anti-racist principles. The members hail from cities including Cesena, Forlì, Bologna, Imola, and Milan, drawing from the DIY punk and hardcore scenes.

The band's journey began with their 2020 debut EP 'Reinventing Darkness', a self-produced effort featuring vocals by Pamela, guitars by Monti and Rappo, bass by Ciufs, and drums by Teo. Tracks like 'Satanic Feminism' highlighted their fusion of Scandinavian death metal, crust, and political themes. In March 2024, they issued their first full-length album, 'The Portal Is Open', through World Eater Records. Recorded in Imola and mixed by Ulf Blomberg at Hobos Studio in Sweden, it delved into pagan traditions, mythology, and feminine archetypes across eight songs.

This year, guitarist Moqi joined as a full member after initially filling in for Rappo, who moved to Berlin. He contributed to 'Abyss Calls to Abyss', written and recorded in 2025. The album's eight tracks include 'Healing the Wound', 'The Blink', 'Accabadora', 'Wear the Night as a Velvet Cloak', 'Le Diable and The Snake', 'Mother Death', 'Drops of Sorrow', and 'Sacred Fires'. It examines the abyss as a space of dissolution and renewal, mirroring personal and collective challenges.

On 'Mother Death', the band describes it as "a solemn, magnetic hymn that approaches death not as an ending, but as a sacred beginning." They elaborate: "Death is given a voice and a face: not horror, but embrace; not punishment, but return; not silence, but whisper." Inspired partly by Demetra George's 'Mysteries of the Dark Moon', the song evokes ancient rituals and transformation. Skulld appeals to fans of Entombed, Dismember, The Crown, Trap Them, and Martyrdöd, maintaining their raw, defiant sound.

Preorders are available on Bandcamp, with the single streaming now.
