South Korean president reaches Delhi for key meeting with Modi

South Korean President Lee Jae-myung arrived in Delhi on Sunday for a three-day state visit. He will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday to discuss shipbuilding, trade, investments, AI, semiconductors, and emerging technologies. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar called on President Lee upon his arrival.

South Korean President Lee Jae-myung's visit to India marks the first state visit by a South Korean president in eight years. The Ministry of External Affairs stated that it underscores both countries' shared aspiration to strengthen existing cooperation and expand into new areas of mutual interest.

Monday's schedule begins with an official welcoming ceremony and wreath-laying at Gandhi Memorial Park, followed by bilateral talks, an MOU exchange, joint press conference, and a luncheon hosted by Prime Minister Modi. Leaders will then attend the Korea-India Business Dialogue and Forum, concluding with a state banquet hosted by President Droupadi Murmu.

South Korean officials described the visit as the full-scale launch of Global South diplomacy. They aim to lay groundwork for $50 billion bilateral trade by 2030 by accelerating improvements to the Korea-India Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement.
