Steve Cohen says David Stearns will remain with Mets

New York Mets owner Steve Cohen has confirmed that president of baseball operations David Stearns will complete the rest of his five-year contract. The announcement comes amid the team's disappointing 2026 season.

Cohen made the comments during an interview on the New York Post podcast "The Show" with Jon Heyman and Joel Sherman. The full episode was released on Wednesday.

"David is reflective and adaptable," Cohen said. "We’ll figure out what changes need to be made, but it won’t be David." He added that the team would live out the contract and noted the mixed record so far, including a near World Series appearance in 2024.

The Mets currently sit at 36-50 and last in the NL East. The team recently dismissed manager Carlos Mendoza. Stearns, who was in Toronto for a series against the Blue Jays, declined to comment on the remarks.
