Steven Spielberg teases alien life in Disclosure Day promo

Steven Spielberg has reaffirmed his belief in extraterrestrial life while promoting his upcoming sci-fi film Disclosure Day. In a new video released after a Super Bowl trailer, the director discusses his lifelong fascination with the unexplained. The film explores themes of UFOs and government secrets.

Steven Spielberg, known for iconic alien-themed films like Close Encounters of the Third Kind and E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, is returning to the genre with Disclosure Day. The project, shrouded in secrecy until recently, hints at a future day when alien life secrets are revealed to the world.

Universal Pictures debuted a trailer for the film during the Super Bowl, followed by an extended promo featuring Spielberg. In the video, he shares his inspiration: “I’ve always been fascinated with things that cannot be explained. When I was just a little kid, I remember developing a real curiosity about the sky at night, and what’s happening up there. And, also, not the possibility, but the guarantee that there is life off this planet.” This echoes his comments 49 years after Close Encounters, where he described alien life as a "guarantee."

The screenplay is by David Koepp, based on a story by Spielberg, marking another collaboration after hits like Jurassic Park and War of the Worlds, which together earned over $3 billion worldwide. The cast includes Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, Eve Hewson, and Colman Domingo. Production is handled by Kristie Macosko Krieger and Spielberg for Amblin Entertainment, with executive producers Adam Somner and Chris Brigham.

John Williams will compose the score, his 30th with Spielberg since 1974's The Sugarland Express. Williams, who considered retirement after The Fabelmans and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, decided to continue: “I’ll stick around for awhile. I can’t retire from music. A day without music is a mistake.” He added that working with Spielberg was reason enough to stay involved.

A first teaser was released months ago, building anticipation for this event film exploring life's big questions.
