The Sunshine Underground played their first full live performance in nearly 10 years at Gorilla in Manchester on July 23. The intimate gig served as a warm-up ahead of their reunion concert at Kirkstall Abbey in Leeds.
The Leeds indie-dance band performed all 11 tracks from their 2006 debut album Raise the Alarm along with five songs from their 2010 release Nobody’s Coming to Save You and one track from their 2014 self-titled album.
They opened the 17-song set with Wake Up and closed the main performance with Put You in Your Place before returning for an encore of The Messiah and Raise the Alarm. The show marked their first full live appearance since December 2016.
The band is scheduled to headline a one-off reunion at Kirkstall Abbey on July 25 to mark the 20th anniversary of Raise the Alarm. White Lies, Hard-Fi, The Futureheads, The Twang and The Whip are also set to appear.
The group formed in Telford in the early 2000s and later relocated to Leeds, where they became associated with the nu-rave scene before splitting in 2016.
