Sweden to start negotiations for four frigates

Sweden will buy four frigates from French Naval Group to dominate the Baltic Sea. Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson announced that negotiations are to begin.

The Swedish Armed Forces aim to strengthen their presence in the Baltic Sea with the new vessels. Supreme Commander Michael Claesson stated the mission is to dominate the area.

Naval Group has the capacity to build two frigates per year. The first delivery to Sweden is scheduled for 2030, followed by one frigate annually.

Guillaume Weisrock, sales chief at Naval Group, highlighted the importance of a long-term partnership. He said the company is ready to deliver on time.
