Two Swedes are suspected of traveling to Ireland to carry out a contract killing. One of them died in a car crash southwest of Limerick on June 8.
One of the men died immediately in the collision involving three cars. He was wearing a balaclava and had a loaded pistol at his feet in the back seat. The driver, also Swedish, fled the scene.
Irish police believe the men were en route to commit the murder when the crash occurred. The fugitive left a mobile phone behind and is thought to have received help to hide.
Swedish police are assisting the investigation but refer questions to Irish authorities. Journalist Conor Lally describes the case as one of the most noticed gang incidents in years.
