The Furious opens in US theaters with intricate fight scenes

Kenji Tanigaki's martial arts film The Furious debuted in American theaters on June 12 via Lionsgate Films. The story follows a father searching for his kidnapped daughter amid intense action sequences. Tanigaki shared details on crafting the balletic yet brutal fights.

The premise centers on Wang Wei, played by Xie Miao, who confronts a child trafficking ring. The action draws from actors' real martial arts backgrounds, including Xie Miao's Chinese Wushu and Joe Taslim's Judo.

Tanigaki incorporated the camera team into rehearsals a month and a half before filming. This approach ensured fluid shots without blurriness during the fast-paced combat.

The climactic 20-minute police station brawl took 18 days to shoot. Tanigaki expanded the scene from a two-on-two matchup by reviving Brian Le's villain character to heighten the chaos.

The director expressed hope for a sequel, noting it depends on audience support for the first film.
