Train stop between Gothenburg and Borås extended to July 16

The train stop between Gothenburg and Borås after Thursday's derailment is extended until July 16, according to the Swedish Transport Administration.

Twelve wagons in a long freight train derailed between Gothenburg and Borås, likely due to a sun kink. The initial estimate pointed to up to two weeks for repairs, but the time has now been extended by about one more week.

– Now that all the wagons are gone our contractor has been able to provide a schedule and a date when we will have traffic again. It is July 16, says Hanna Ekberg, section manager at the Swedish Transport Administration.

The repair is estimated to cost around 10–15 million kronor. Traffic remains heavily affected, with bus replacements on several routes.

– Trains from Stockholm turn in Alingsås and from there it is replaced with bus to Gothenburg. Regarding the route Gothenburg–Kalmar the trains are completely canceled and replaced with bus, says Anna Sandh, press spokesperson at SJ.
