A reservoir breach in Nanning has killed 26 people and left seven missing after Typhoon Maysak struck Guangxi.
The Liulan Reservoir in Nanning breached on Monday after Typhoon Maysak brought record rainfall. At a flood control press conference on Thursday at 11 a.m., officials reported 26 fatalities and seven people missing, with five victims' identities still unconfirmed.
As of 5 p.m. Wednesday, the Red Cross Society of China's Guangxi Branch had received 15.1 million yuan, about $2.2 million, in cash and in-kind donations. All funds will support emergency rescue and post-disaster reconstruction.
Rescue teams in Hengzhou deployed drones to deliver food, water and blankets to cut-off areas. Firefighters used plastic buckets as makeshift cradles to carry infants through floodwaters. Shelters in Xiaoyi and Yunbiao towns now house about 700 displaced residents with donated meals and medical services.
