Ubisoft reveals details on Assassin's Creed Black Flag remake

Ubisoft developers shared new information about Assassin's Creed Black Flag: Resynced during an AMA on April 30. The remake, set to launch on July 9, will restore many original side activities and features. However, some elements like Hidden Blade combat will not return.

Ubisoft developers participated in an Ask Me Anything session on the Assassin’s Creed subreddit on April 30, providing updates on Assassin's Creed Black Flag: Resynced, a full remake of the 2013 pirate-themed open-world game. The title is scheduled to launch on July 9 across platforms. Developers highlighted several returning features from the original Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag during the event, which followed a preview that showcased its potential. All side activities, including checkers, diving, whaling, and hunting, are back, along with Kenway’s Fleet system for capturing and managing ships. This fleet management now occurs entirely in-game at dedicated locations, eliminating the need for a separate phone app. Developers also confirmed the return of all costumes for protagonist Edward Kenway and bar games. The open-world map measures 16km x 16km, matching the original size, with additions like expanded city areas and new islands. The classic wanted system, featuring pirate hunter ships that pursue players based on infamy levels, returns as well, with options to reduce notoriety through boarding ships or bribes. Memory corridors appear during loading, though DNA sequence-style menus are absent. Not all original mechanics made the cut. The Hidden Blade cannot be equipped as a primary melee weapon and is limited to 'bloody' finishers in fights, disappointing some fans who have missed the feature since Assassin's Creed Syndicate. Naval combat no longer includes a mini-map, replaced by a compass to encourage players to focus on the screen and enhance immersion.
