Ubisoft upgrades The Division for PlayStation 5

Ubisoft has released a free performance upgrade for Tom Clancy’s The Division on PS5, enhancing visuals and gameplay for the 2016 title. The update brings 60 FPS graphics to the post-pandemic New York City adventure. This move continues Ubisoft's efforts to modernize older games for current hardware.

Tom Clancy’s The Division, released on March 8, 2016, for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, places players as Special Agents rebuilding a snow-covered New York City amid a deadly pandemic. The game earned strong reviews, achieving an 80% positive score on Metacritic, and became one of Ubisoft's best-selling titles, bolstered by post-launch expansions, daily missions, and DLC.

The new PS5 upgrade delivers a significant performance boost, including 60 FPS graphics that improve the visual fidelity of the game's dynamic weather patterns, day-night cycles, and sudden storms. These elements enhance unexpected firefights and exploration in the urban setting, making the experience smoother for returning and new players alike. Owners of the PS4 version can access this upgrade at no additional cost, providing an ideal entry point for those who missed the original release.

This update marks the twelfth such free enhancement Ubisoft has provided since 2020, following similar treatments for titles in the Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry series. The Division 2 received its upgrade earlier, and while no timeline exists for an Xbox version of the first game's update, the initiative demonstrates Ubisoft's strategy to sustain engagement with legacy franchises.
