Uttarakhand CM Dhami urges house to pass resolution backing women’s quota bill

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami addressed a special session of the assembly, proposing a unanimous resolution to support the early implementation of the Centre’s Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam. He stated there should be no politics in empowering women, who are taking on leadership roles. The bill seeks 33% reservation for women in Parliament and state assemblies.

Uttarakhand’s assembly convened a special session on Tuesday under the theme “Respect for Women — Rights in Democracy” to discuss the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami urged the house to pass a unanimous resolution backing the Centre’s efforts to implement the bill at the earliest. It aims to provide 33% reservation for women in Parliament and assemblies. “Recognising the strength of women, PM Narendra Modi introduced the Nari Shakti Vandan Act in 2023… The PM had called for cooperation from all parties and citizens to implement this,” Dhami said.

Dhami stated the Opposition had prevented the bill’s implementation. He emphasised that there should be no politics when it comes to empowering women, who are now taking on leadership roles.
