Venus Williams praises Serena's Wimbledon return

Venus Williams offered positive remarks on her sister's recent Wimbledon appearance during a press conference at the Citi DC Open. Serena Williams lost in the first round after nearly four years away from the sport.

Venus Williams described Serena's performance against Maya Joint as stellar during her pre-tournament press conference at the Citi DC Open on July 27.

"She played stellar in that match," Venus said. "I think her level was so extraordinarily high. It was very unlucky. Sometimes you play players who are on fire, and they don’t seem to maintain that level afterwards. You’ll have to ask her what’s next, but she looks great."

Serena had returned to singles competition at Wimbledon after competing in doubles at Queen's and the Berlin Tennis Open. She later withdrew from doubles at the All-England Club due to a knee injury.

Venus, who holds a singles wildcard for the Canadian Masters scheduled for August 3-13 in Toronto, expressed hope about a possible doubles reunion with Serena at the US Open. "We would love to play the US Open together, so we’ll see what happens," she said.

Venus is set to face Anastasia Potapova on July 28 in her opening match at the DC Open.
