Where Winds Meet reaches two million players in first 24 hours

The Chinese action-RPG Where Winds Meet has attracted two million players worldwide within the first 24 hours of its global launch. Developed by Everstone Studio and published by NetEase Games, the free-to-play title launched earlier this week after a year of availability in China. It features a Wuxia fantasy setting with significant multiplayer elements.

Launch Milestone

Where Winds Meet achieved a remarkable two million player count just 24 hours after its global release. The game, which entered the market in China in December 2024, saw 10 million pre-registrations prior to the worldwide rollout. On Steam, it recorded a peak concurrent player count of nearly 194,000, placing it behind recent titles like Arc Raiders (481,966 peak) and Battlefield 6 (747,440 peak), but ahead of Wuchang: Fallen Feathers (131,518 peak) from earlier in the year.

Platform Performance

Beyond Steam, Where Winds Meet is available on PS5 and mobile devices. On PS5, it ranks among the best-sellers in regions including the US, France, and South Korea. As a free-to-play game with a substantial online multiplayer component resembling an MMO, it has drawn an initial surge of interest, contributing to its strong concurrent numbers.

Developer Response

Beralt Lyu, lead producer of Where Winds Meet, shared enthusiasm about the reception: "We are thrilled to see such a positive reception for Where Winds Meet from players around the world. Looking ahead, our team is committed to listening to feedback from our global player community and continuously improving the game. We will also continue to deliver high-quality seasonal updates, bringing more captivating narrative, fresh game modes and new exploration content to the exciting Jianghu."

Broader Context

This success follows the wave of Chinese action-RPGs inspired by the popularity of Black Myth: Wukong, which peaked at 2.4 million concurrent players on Steam. Where Winds Meet positions itself within this growing genre, emphasizing Wuxia fantasy elements in its Jianghu world.
