Xbox launches backward compatibility program for PC

Xbox announced a new Backward Compatibility on PC program on July 22 that brings original Xbox games to Windows PCs and handhelds.

The first four titles now available are Blinx: The Time Sweeper, Conker: Live and Reloaded, Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge, and Fuzion Frenzy. Players can buy the games through the Xbox app on PC for $9.99 or access them through Xbox Game Pass. Existing console owners receive the PC version at no extra cost.

Each game supports new graphics options including up to 4x resolution upscaling, VSync, fullscreen and windowed modes, anisotropic filtering, and enhanced anti-aliasing. Cloud streaming is also available. The titles require Windows 11.

Jason Ronald, Xbox vice president of next generation, said the effort preserves gaming history and allows libraries to move forward with new technology. Achievements for the four games will arrive in the coming months.

Xbox described the program as the start of a broader initiative to bring more classic titles to PC over time.
