Actor Zach Gilford has left the Paramount+ series Criminal Minds: Evolution following the Season 19 finale, which began streaming on July 23. His character Elias Voit was transferred to a high-security federal prison.
In the episode, Voit's daughter Holly killed the serial killer James Crowley, also known as The Fan, to save her father. Voit then took responsibility for the death to protect her. The FBI accepted this account, and Voit received no additional punishment beyond his existing 64 consecutive life sentences.
Gilford, who joined the show in Season 16, confirmed his departure in an interview. He stated he is done with the series for now, though he noted the BAU may face challenges without Voit's input.
Gilford described Voit's evolving relationship with David Rossi, played by Joe Mantegna, as that of a father figure. He also discussed Voit's fears about his daughter inheriting his traits after she was forced to kill.
