The Alabama Republican Party is set to meet tomorrow to determine whether Senator Tommy Tuberville meets the state's residency requirements to run for governor.
Tuberville won the Republican primary last month with 85 percent of the vote. His unsuccessful primary opponent Ken McFeeters has raised questions about whether Tuberville has lived continuously in Alabama for the seven years required by the state constitution.
County records show Tuberville's wife and son have owned a house in Auburn since 2018, with his name added to the deed last year. Attorneys for Tuberville released redacted tax records indicating he has lived in Alabama since 2018, though records also show he voted in Florida that November.
Tuberville's spokesperson said he did not switch his driver's license to Alabama until 2019. McFeeters has called for more transparency, stating that the vast majority of people in Alabama do not believe Tuberville actually lives there.
Even if the party rules in Tuberville's favor, a court challenge remains likely.
